Petersfield 3s travelled to Shedfield to play Locksheath 4s looking to bounce back from last week's heavy defeat.
Petersfield skipper Dave Squires called correctly and decided to make use of the new ball although the pitch would offer nothing as it was artificial.
Alec Scott Plummer on debut opened the bowling (2-62) with vice skipper Olaf Swanzy (1-46) as a much changed line up started ok. Alec bowled Locksheath opener Varney for 27 once he found the correct length to bowl on the artificial strip. Tom Hurst (22) came in a threw the bat at everything making a mess of the bowlers figures until he mistimed a drive to Marcus Sampson at mid-off who took the catch at the 2nd attempt off Dave Squires (1-56).
Wickets were hard to come by and Will Chapman (37) supported opener Mark Farrington (76) and the pair put on a hundred partnership as Petersfield wilted in the field under the hot sun. The fielding was not good as a total off 55 extras on top of a number of misfields on a very quick but bumpy football pitch of an outfield.
The real high note of the day was young Zach Holgado on debut who took 2 wickets both caught in the covers by his grandad Del Kelly. The young lad bowled with good pace and was unlucky but to get more wickets. Locksheath made 295 for 6 off their 40 overs.
As is the way it is going this season for David Longland (1) he went early having an almighty swing across the line in the 2nd over. Marcus Sampson then lost his stumps off a very good yorker from Locksheath skipper Thomas McDowell (4-13).
Olaf Swanzy (0) went for a duck after being pushed up the order as skipper Squires was umpiring. He was quickly followed by Del Kelly (8) as McDowell benefited from another ugly shot as Kelly missed a straight one.
Dave Squires (10) lasted a bit longer before being adjudged LBW to a ball he and the keeper thought was too high and going down leg, unfortunately the umpire did not agree.
Daniel Squires (2) on advice from his skipper saw off McDowell along with Graham Linkhorn (0) before Dylan Parker wrapped up the innings with figures of 4 overs 4 wickets for 6 runs who managed to swing the ball very late with what looked like reverse swing as he took the artificial wicket out of the equation.
A poor batting performance from Petersfield lead to a heavy defeat by 239 runs.
Man (young man) of the match was Zach Holgado who did not look out of place in this mens game. Well played young fella.
