After a swelteringly hot Saturday, it was a relief to be by the sea on a beautiful Sunday morning with a cool breeze. Petersfield won the toss and elected to bat on a green wicket with cracks.
Alfie, Harry and Kasper all got out very quickly with some exceptionally good bowling from the opposition who targeted the stumps very effectively. They were swiftly followed by Alex, Harvey and Oscar and found themselves 20 odd for six! Credit to Fareham who really did display some amazing spin bowling. Oscar and then Sid (scoring 19!) did brilliantly to get the team up to a respectable 46 and demonstrated how you can stay in and build a good score if you keep out the good balls and knock it into the gaps for ones and twos.
Kasper and Harvey kept it very tight for openers both with maiden overs but somewhat surprisingly, a LBW decision was overturned by the opposition umpire. Harvey then got two decisive wickets. Harry followed up with four resounding wickets with an great spell of spin and had two in row. Alfie then got a thumper of a bowled wicket. In a remarkable turnaround, the Pumas pushed Fareham right to the limit – they needed two runs to win and Pumas needed one wicket! Sid bowled a straight one that could have easily hit the stumps but the Fareham player hit it for four for a thriller of a finish. Alex, Thomas and Oscar showed how to field consistently giving nothing away. Thomas nearly pull catch of the season with diving effort. A really excellent fielding performance by Pumas who nearly pulled off an amazing fight back. Yet again, the team showed great spirit and resilience. What a game!
