“Liphook have historically been a strong opponent, so Petersfield U15 faced a big challenge with only a few of our key players available for selection. We won the toss and chose to bat on a swelteringly hot morning. James Tyler and Charlie Oatley opened against some fiery bowling. Charlie looked in fine form, but had a ball pop off a length and was caught at mid wicket. Oscar Walker came to the crease and hit a boundary before being bowled. Ted Morrison came out and hit a three fours and was then caught. The wickets continued to tumble and we fell to 75 for 8. Max Oatley, who was called up from the U13’s, turned the game around and scored an unbeaten 33 hitting six fours off their opening bowlers who came back on. We posted a total of 106, which looked about 30 runs short with a lightning quick outfield.

Liphook came out to the centre and were definitely in the box seat after scoring 48 runs before the first wicket fell. Their skipper, Charlie Burrow, raced to 30 runs, but was then run out by Oscar Walker. Liphook had nine wickets in hand with 59 runs to get off 11 overs, so were clearly the favourites. Then there was a moment of brilliance from Tom Kinally who took a hatrick and the game once again was turned on its head. Oscar and Charlie came back on to go for the jugular, and another couple of wickets fell. There was some tight bowling from Oli Heapy on his debut, who was also on loan from the U13’s. Liphook needed 23 runs off the last 3 overs with 2 wickets remaining, so fast becoming a tall order. Petersfield skittled them for 84 without adding another run. I am delighted to say that our winning streak continues and this was probably the best win of the season so far. We were solid with the bat against some hostile bowling, we were electric in the field and the bowling was outstanding.”
