Petersfield CC U13 Girls vs Havant @ Penns Place

First run out of the season saw our first glimpses of a keen, but young side against a more experienced Havant team with 3 county players on show for the opposition. This was not only the first game of the season, it was the girls first foray into hard ball cricket and playing proper cricket rules so the excitement was very evident. Our side consisted of 6 U12's, an U11 and Amalie who is an U10. Petersfield cleverly won the toss and bowled on a scorching evening at Penn's Place.

Martha, Nell and Isabelle all got two wickets each, but the whole outfit bowled consistently straight and on target, further pressure was applied with some outstanding wicket keeping from Elouise and tight fielding by all, making a brilliant collective team performance ensuring that the visitors were kept to 113 after their 20 overs.

Despite the good fielding performance, the chase looked a challenge, they had some big quick bowlers and a very handy left armed finger spinner. But the openers Isabelle and Sophia set the team up for a big chase, Sophia played the anchor role, only departing the scene having batted with both Isabelle and Elouise to create a steady foundation but also keeping the scoreboard moving. At the half way point Petersfield stood at a competitive 46 for 3 but were the 3 wickets lost too many or a great foundation? Maddie and Nell built a nice partnership until Maddie was bowled and Nell followed shortly after.

Then up stepped Martha and Grace who brilliantly took the girls to a maiden victory with four balls to spare, through some positive hitting and great running.

An incredible start to the season Petersfield U13 Girls and on to the next round of the cup!!!
