Froxfield were the visitors to the Heath on another hot Petersfield day. Captain Henry Shore duly pleased the home team faithful by winning the toss and, unsurprisingly, choosing to bat first.
Toss watch now reads 4 from 5, with an inexplicable oppo choosing to bowl first in the other. A strong start indeed!
That strong start continued on the pitch, where the skipper and young Archie Maclean raced past their first 100 partnership of the season by the first drinks break. There was no slowing down after either as Shore raced to his 3rd century of the season and young Archie brought up his maiden 1XI 50, which included some very classy shots indeed!
211 runs later and they both fell in quick succession. However, the rest bite Froxfield hoped for never came as Joe Clarke (24), Hari Sood (42*), Rob Walton (22) & Fraser Anstey (14*) fired the home side to 324-5 at the halfway stage.
In reply, Froxfield got off to a good start and reached 49-0 within 8 overs and there were some thoughts that they might make a good chase of this.
However, the opening bowlers combined superbly with Oscar Maclean (2-36 off 9), clearly fired up by the thought that younger brother Archie may now be better than him, charging in and having Fooks caught surperbly by a diving Joe Clarke at first slip.
As it turned out, this was the beginning of the end as Clarke (1-33), Kidd (1-15) and Walker (2-25) provided excellent seam control before spin twins Russell (2-19) and Straw (2-5) brought a swift conclusion to proceedings with Froxfield all out for 143.
A convincing 181 run victory, 3 wins from 3 and top the league. Medstead away next weekend looking to continue the winning feeling!
