After a spectacularly sunny April and a pre-season under their belts, the 1XI travelled to Lock's Heath looking to begin their season with a win.

Despite the full sun in the sky, the rumours of a biblical storm to come were enough to persuade Petersfield captain Henry Shore to elect to field upon winning the toss.

Opening bowlers Oscar Maclean and Joe Clarke got into their work well, with runs very hard to come by off the bat (with extras easily being the top scorer at the 10 over mark!). Frank Straw kept this pressure up when deputising with the new ball, following Maclean's body failing him as he pulled up like a Grand National horse, and came very close to forcing an opening.

However, the run rate still never really increased as good pressure was also applied by Oscar Walker, Chris Russell, Georgie Russell and Fraser Anstey (on 1XI debut) when the "cricket season has started so it must now rain" rain arrived and brought an end to proceedings with Locks Heath on 107-3 in the 34th over.

A good first competitive run out, although certainly room to improve on the extras front for next week's first home game of the season!
