Cricket should be back at the Heath this weekend 17 days after some nighttime criminal damage wrecked hours of volunteer and paid work.
A small army of volunteers tried to save and replace the divots and trenches created, with some over 6 feet long, however they unfortunately failed to take. Hired machinery was then brought in to core and cut and transplant over 100 metres of turf with the donor area ready to be rolled and reseeded. Top soil is being added to these areas to make them as safe as possible. It’s not pretty but games will return to the Heath this weekend.
The support from both within the club, the wider cricketing community and externally has been magnificent. Dan, our groundsman has led the way adding many more hours to his already long list. Funds have been raised which will cover the repairs and lost income, if we have anything left over we will use it to bolster the security at the Heath. It’s impossible to thank everyone on here however I would like to thank Compton and Droxford cricket clubs who hosted our games at short notice and the team at Churchers College including Neil Medley and Louisa Taylor who made a pitch available to us again at short notice.
Thanks all, we move on.
